LOTION COATING M/C FOR TISSUE/NON WOVEN PRODUCTS:
"The PCMC LOTION COATER is a machine unit that applies a predetermined quantity
of lotion to a web utilising gravure coating technology."
Distinct Features of PCMC Lotion Coating Machine:
-
PCMC has been designing and building gravure coating machines and lines since
the 1960's and introduced the successful simultaneous (2-sided) coater to the
coating industry in 1980
-
PCMC have built and shipped over 120 coating lines incorporating over 250
coating heads and successfully started up, all of them.
-
PCMC has more than 20 simultaneous lotion coating heads of widths up from 450mm
to 3500 mm currently operating in production.
-
PCMC has specialised in developing coaters and the necessary ancillary
equipment for the tissue industry and have many units already operating in the
field at speeds up to 750 m/min
-
PCMC has carried out over 250 trials on the lab line specifically for the
tissue industry, thus providing customers with a means of evaluating new
product potential. The huge experience gathered is unique in the tissue
industry.
-
PCMC has developed & refined the offset gravure coating and laminating
principles for the tissue industry, using specially developed gravure
engravings and offset roll covers.
-
The PCMC coating line consists of heavy duty, modular units that are proven
under production conditions over many years running on our embossers and
coaters.
-
PCMC has achieved an unsurpassed level of process know-how in the tissue field,
including ply-bonding and coating, and has engineers and service technicians to
support the equipment and customer needs.
Why does PCMC use Gravure Technology for Application?
The advantages of applying lotions using gravure technology are:
-
Excellent uniformity of coating.
-
Economical lotion consumption.
-
Minimal losses.
-
Low maintenance requirement

IN LINE or OFF LINE COATING
There are two approaches to lotion coating of tissue (in-line or
off-line). One approach is to coat the tissue in an offline process. Some of
the advantages of an offline and online systems are as follows:
| Off-line Process Advantage
|
Explanation
|
|
More Consistent Process
|
Product consistency is easier to maintain with one
coating operation Vs several operations. A consistent process results in lower
material cost and higher efficiencies. One process to apply the proper amount
of lotion and one process to optimise.
|
|
Increased Marketing Potential
|
The lotioned rolls from the off-line unit can be
converted on all of a facilities converting equipment (facial; tissue, bath
tissue, pocket handkerchiefs).
|
|
Higher Converting Capacity
|
The off-line process does not include any lower web
speed unit such as a folder. Potential for introducing other coated products to
the market and meeting your future converting needs.
|
|
Inline Efficiency Less Affected |
Adding any extra process to a line can affect the
overall line efficiency. Coating offline means the converting line efficiency
is less affected.
|
| Operator Expertise On one line
|
Operator expertise is dedicated to one line and not
needed on several lines. |
The other approach is to lotion coat the tissue in-line with the
final converting process.
|
In-line Process Advantage
|
Explanation
|
|
Eliminates Any Ageing Factors
|
Parent reels produced on an off-line unit generally
require storage. If lotioned stock is not maintained properly, there will be
parent reels that have excessively aged and maybe outside the product
specification. The product made on the in-line process is the same product that
is packaged.
|
|
Lower Initial Capital Investment
|
No need for an additional backstands or a rewinder.
Many converting processes such as handkerchief folders and facial folders only
require a relatively slow and narrow coater which is less expensive that
coaters normally associated with high speed off-line units. Allows a converter
to incrementally build-up their lotion coating capacity.
